Our History

Original Building Central Baptist Church was organized June 14, 1949 with 26 charter members as the result of a revival meeting conducted in a tent erected on this present site by Rev. John W. Rawlings.

Central has the distinction of having the original church building built in a day. There were 72 workers who met together and erected the one story frame structure on Saturday, June 25, 1949. Services were held in the building that evening and more than one hundred met in it for Sunday School the following Sunday morning. The church called Bro. F. R. Sudduth as its first pastor.

The first Sunday School building was completed in December, 1949 and soon it was found to be inadequate for the rapidly growing Sunday School. A new auditorium was begun and it was dedicated to the Lord in February of 1952. In 1965, this auditorium was completely remodeled and redecorated. Then in 1970, a new two story Sunday School and Education Facility was built.

In June of 1983, the church called Kenneth G. Rhoades to lead the church as the Senior Pastor. Since that time the church has more than doubled numerically and financially. The church has gone through the process of redecorating, remodeling and purchasing additional property.

On June 30, 1991 the church broke ground for a new auditorium and on May 17, 1992 had the dedication service. Since then, we have completely remodeled the old auditorium and most of the Sunday School building.

Our prayer at Central Baptist Church is that God will continue to bless and allow us as a church to minister to our community and world in His Name.
